Looking for a logo developing software program?

I have a name for my business but need to design a logo but don't have allot of funds. I am creative and have something in mind to use for now for a logo as I can always change it later once business picks up. What is a good software I can purchase or use free of charge that would allow me to create my own logo and have some cool fonts along with other things I will need to do the job completely as i cant think of other things i will need right now. I want something that can be downloaded to my EBay page and other websites? I need something that is easy and not HTML 'ish. Once I have the logo, is this mine? and how do I protect it?

Well, if you want to have a lot of control in designing your logo, you can download GIMP ( http://gimp.org ;it can generate some really nice looking logo texts) or Paint.net ( http://getpaint.net ). Both of them are free, and there are good tutorials to help you all around the internet.
