My brother had the brilliant idea of changing the default of .cur to something that doesn't even read pictures, Explorer. Now when I go into the default programs section of Control panel, .cur doesn't even appear! The file is all over my computer, but not in this one section. It's weird, I don't know why it happened, and I only associate it with the Explorer thing because that is what had happened the most recently.
I tried going into the registry to delete the program id with Snagit associated with .cur, but it wouldn't let me (I am an administrator and the only account on my computer). That was weird too. Then I tried searching Yahoo Answers and came up with http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090731085157AAZkhOa. The accepted answer didn't make any sense to me, so I followed the %26quot;other answer.%26quot; Nothing happened and now I feel nervous about having messed with the registry so much.
I am running Windows 7, but if you know how do make me see my cursor icons on other windows versions, it shouldn't be that much different and your help would be appreciated. I just want the icon to appear next the to name when I'm looking through my files again!
How do I change the default program for a .cur file (cursor) back to nothing?
I wouldn't delete the .cur file entry. Instead, do this:
1.Click the Start-%26gt;Run menu item. (Sorry, this is for Windows XP and Vista.)
2.In the text box, enter
cmd
and press Enter.
3.In the “Black Box”, enter
ASSOC .cur=curfile
and press Enter.
Hope that helps.
How do I change the default program for a .cur file (cursor) back to nothing?
On Windows XP (and probably 7), go to %26quot;Control Panel%26quot; -%26gt; %26quot;Folder Options%26quot; -%26gt; %26quot;File Types%26quot; tab. Then find .cur and delete it. Hope that works. (Make sure control panel is in classic view).
If that doesn't work, you could also uninstall the program, which (if it is a professionally made program) will also remove all file type associations. Then reinstall it and make sure not to hit that button. It sounds like your situation might be slightly different though, as it is user, not program defined.
