Laptop is always refreshing automatically ?

i have a hp laptop and is here with be for about a year. now it is always refreshing itself. when i just click on the desktop it refreshes several times and the icons of the program got changed. i tried restarting but when i just click on the desktop it flickers and just refreshes many time making no softwares to open. I thought it was a virus threat and soon reformatted it. BUt is was in vein and the problem stated just as before. What is problem and how can it be solved. its anyway sure that it is not associated with virus or something like that. Also now when i switch on the laptop it plays some starange sound. What is this and what to do to avoid this.

check your F5 key if it is pressed down or not cause that is the refresh button
